WMH has been working with a Blue Chip medical products company to develop a robotic spraying system for coating product with an atomised sterile solution as part of a fully automated production system. WMH has already installed two systems and is currently finishing assembly and in house testing of a third. The systems integrate two six-axis robots with an accurate dosing and atomising system and carrier conveyor to provide a compact in-line solution.
The Mitsubishi Electric RV-7FL robots feature clean lines and IP67 environmental protection and are designed for clean-room and wash-down applications. Operator control for the system is via a menu driven Mitsubishi GOT touchscreen HMI, which offers functionality for robot programming in addition to operator line control.
The support-structure for the robots and conveyors is designed for a clear-room environment and is manufactured from 316 grade stainless steel. The machined conveyor beds are manufactured from UHMWPE Ultra plus which offers longer life and a lower coefficient of friction than standard engineering plastics.
Design Engineer, Roger Coombe commented “Work on this project has been helped enormously by the use of our 3D CAD software which has enabled us to determine service routes at the design phase and simplify the assembly of the system.”
The WMH coating system offers the client increased throughput, integrated wash system for the dosing system, increased reach on the robots and additional control functionality and flexibility.
