Development of Western Mechanical Handling’s flexible ultrasonic robotic cutting unit has recently undergone a major step forward with the unit having undergone extended production trials for a large national bakery.
WMH were approached by a bakery who were looking for the short term loan of a cutting unit to help in the manufacture of a new savoury meat and pastry spiral product during their peak Christmas production period.
Working with product development personnel and production staff WMH were able to re-engineer their demonstration model into a semi-automated full production unit suitable for the application. The finished cell provided a hygienic, compact unit combining a Mitsubishi Electric RV-7FM MELFA 6-axis Robot and Telsonic ultrasonic cutting blade in a stand-alone safety enclosure complete with control system. The completed unit enabled trays of product to be sliced into clean even rounds prior to baking.
WMH are looking to further develop the unit into a fully automated inline cutting unit with integral product feed conveyor and vision control technology which will be suitable for a range linear and radial food cutting and portioning applications including cakes, pies, pizza and cheese.
